Lea Little and Louise Little began their missionary career in China with China Inland Mission (Louise: 1947-1951; Lea: 1949-1951). After Communist China expelled all expatriate missionaries, they served in Japan first with Overseas Missionary Fellowship (the renamed CIM) and then the Evangelical Free Church Mission (1953-1975) which at that time included missionaries from Canada and the US. They returned to Canada in 1975 after Louise was diagnosed with cancer. Rev. Lea Little became the first executive director of the EFC of Canada Mission (now ServeBeyond), retiring in 1989. Lea passed away on February 6, 2017. Louise passed away on April 10, 2012.
Lea and Louise’s life work as missionaries and then Lea’s work as a missionary statesman spanned 40 years.
According to Arvid Olson in his book, “The Historical Development of the Evangelical Free Church of Canada Missions” (p. 57):
Lea was the Father of Canadian Free Church Missions.
