Dear Friends,

Greetings again from Japan. It is two months or so since we last wrote so we will bring you up to date on news, prayers answered and requests. Thank you sincerely for your prayers and also for letters received from many of you. We know that you will rejoice in some answers to your prayers and we trust you will be guided in your praying by other items.

ANSWERS –
By our new address you will see that we have moved from Aomori City to Hachinohe City (‘Shi’ in Japanese). After persistent and continued searching a more or less suitable house was found in the area in which we feel the Lord would have us work in this City of 103,000. Our house is being winterized at present. It is on the outskirts of the city and a bit far from the business and shopping areas but for our present need it is suitable. We moved here the last of July. Our ‘moving’ expenses were covered by a gift from Christian friends on a near by US Air base. We have ample room outside for the children to play.

The Bible Classes we left in Aomori City are being continued by other missionaries with new attendance in some cases.

Praise for two recent converts. Mr. Ichikawa, a railroad postal worker of about 28 years, came to Lea for spiritual help. (Hand written note by Louise: came to the Lord in Aomori City) After a few visits he gave his heart to the Lord and has been growing and serving in fellowship with a group of Christians. A member of Lea’s Aomori Bible Class wrote recently for help. Lea visited him last week and he too came to the Lord. Because of trouble he sought release for his burdened heart. Mr. Nudo (Kudo?) is a teacher.

Both of these men live in Aomori City. It is said that in Japan more come to Christ through Matt.11:28 than through any other verse.

We now have the help of a Christian maid.

Beginning tomorrow we begin study with a Christian teacher. This man, Mr. Miura, has had some preaching experience. We are indeed thankful for this provision of a teacher.

Our Mission Language School is now settled in better quarters in Aomori City. The Mission had purchased the house which we formerly lived in in Aomori and it is now our Mission Headquarters in Japan.

Our missionaries have had tent-campaigns thus far in five cities with encouraging results in some centres.

Our missionaries are entering two new cities soon and already have housing.

REQUESTS –
We would appreciate prayer for the beginning of this work. For home visiting, tracting, street preaching, first contacts, first converts, first meetings, etc. We hope to begin slowly so that most of this winter can be spent on language study. Language is still our greatest need.

Pray that we may all have good physical health during the winter.

NEWS –
We had two weeks holidays at a summer resort in Central Japan in August. We were by the sea and the children thoroughly enjoyed the shore. We also enjoyed fellowship of other missionaries at this centre.

We have all had some sickness with our children this summer. Philip has trouble with his tonsils but is still too young to have them out. Lea is glad that the asthma season will soon be over. Louise is generally [well]. We are thankful that our physical ills are only minor ones.

Fall weather has arrived. The days are warm but the evenings are beginning to feel cool. We will soon think of putting up our stoves for early mornings and bath nights.
